As a media educator, Annie founded the Native Lens program in partnership with the Swinomish Tribe in 2004. Native Lens teaches digital filmmaking and media skills to indigenous youth as a form of self-expression, cultural preservation, and social change. In 2005 Annie co-founded the non-profit organization Longhouse Media with Tracy Rector, teaching and collaborating on community film based projects with Native American youth on reservations across Washington State.
In 2007, Annie was awarded a Fulbright for her film project “Nossas Histórias” with homeless youth in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In addition, she worked as a mentor and youth instructor at Reel Grrls, Phillips Community Television/Intermedia Arts, and 911 Media Arts Center. Annie is committed to teaching digital storytelling and media art to youth, as a way of promoting self-expression, critical inquiry, and community engagement.
